Wide Area Network

Quality telecommunications are critical to business – especially when multiple applications like video and voice are using the same connection as regular inter-office and Internet traffic. An Over The Wire Dedicated Private Network allows businesses to connect remote offices with secure, private connections between locations. While many providers offer a basic Wide Area Network (WAN) between sites, Over The Wire goes a step further by understanding exactly what the infrastructure being utilised is, each individual connection’s capabilities and then providing the right advice and connection based on the needs of the site. A WAN provided by Over The Wire is engineered to carry video, voice, regular WAN office traffic and Internet traffic without affecting the quality of latency sensitive traffic such as video and voice.

How is an Over The Wire WAN Different?

Quality of Service (QoS)

Many customers have a WAN which is “QoS Enabled” and should allow video, voice and other applications to function correctly across it but are often left disappointed. One of the most common failings with a network is that the routers at the customer site are configured for QoS but the core of the network either isn’t configured to honour QoS or can’t honour priority packets.

Over The Wire has engineered its whole private network to honour QoS markings. This means that not only can the routers at each customer location prioritise traffic but OTW’s core and edge devices all prioritise traffic too. At no point in the network will prioritised traffic hit a bottleneck, causing degradation in the performance of an application.

There are other configurations changes we make at Over The Wire to tweak our settings across the network – they ensure latency sensitive traffic isn’t affected by delays either on the network or at the customer router. Our background in voice networks gives us an insight into delay sensitive traffic which most data WAN providers don’t have experience with.

Customer Access Tails

The team at Over The Wire has extensive experience in telecommunications and has formed numerous relationships with wholesale carriers over the years. We have access to the major network providers in Australia as well as some niche players which gives us a very broad base to quote from. All optical fibre, Ethernet, x.163, Microwave and SHDSL connections are delivered 1:1, with the option for dedicated and shared ADSL access.

Customer Service

Our aim at Over The Wire is to get the connection installed correctly the first time, use equipment which is extremely reliable and provide the best possible experience to our customers. To this end, we use business grade access tails, Cisco and Juniper core network equipment and Cisco customer premises equipment. If there are any issues in the network, your technical support call will be answered by our level 3 technicians who can login to the network and the routers while on the call.

Over The Wire provides the building blocks for a WAN capable of carrying video, SIP termination and inter-office voice in addition to regular WAN and Internet traffic.
